Uva Ursi (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi), also known as bearberry, is a small shrub native to the Northern Hemisphere. It has been used in traditional medicine by Native American and European herbalists for centuries to treat urinary tract infections and kidney issues.
The leaves contain arbutin, which has antiseptic and diuretic properties. Uva Ursi was used to cleanse and strengthen the urinary system, relieve bladder and kidney discomfort, and promote overall urinary health.
In the 19th century, it was included in the United States Pharmacopeia as a treatment for urinary ailments.
Today, Uva Ursi remains a popular herbal remedy for supporting urinary tract health.
