Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) is a small palm native to the southeastern United States, particularly Florida. It has been used for centuries by Native American tribes, particularly the Seminoles, for its nutritional and medicinal properties.
The berries were used to treat urinary and reproductive issues, as well as to boost overall vitality. In the late 19th century, saw palmetto gained recognition in Western medicine as a treatment for prostate enlargement and urinary problems.
Modern research supports its use in managing benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and improving urinary function. Saw palmetto is now widely used in herbal medicine for men’s health, particularly for supporting prostate health.
