Plantain, or Plantago major, is a herbaceous plant native to Europe and Asia but now found worldwide. It has been used medicinally for thousands of years, dating back to ancient Greece and Rome.
Known as “the healing blade,” plantain was used to treat wounds, insect bites, and skin irritations due to its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. The leaves were traditionally applied as poultices or made into teas to soothe mucous membranes and aid digestion.
Plantain was also used in traditional European herbal medicine to treat respiratory issues and urinary tract infections.
Today, it remains a popular herb for its versatile healing properties and ease of use.
