Osha
Alternative Name:
ligusticum porteri
Osha, or Ligusticum porteri, is a perennial herb native to the Rocky Mountains and other high-altitude regions of North America.
Native American tribes have long used osha root for its medicinal properties, particularly for respiratory ailments. The root was traditionally chewed or made into teas to relieve coughs, colds, bronchitis, and sore throats.
Osha was also used in purification rituals and as a protective plant against negative energies. Early settlers and herbalists adopted its use for similar purposes.
Today, osha root remains a popular remedy in herbal medicine for its antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties, especially in supporting respiratory health.
