Giant Knotweed, a fast-growing invasive perennial plant, hails from Asia.
It was intentionally introduced to North America in the 1800s for its impressive size and delicate flower clusters. However, its aggressive growth habit has led it to become a noxious weed in many areas outside its native range. The hollow, jointed stems resemble bamboo, and the plant can reach heights of 3–4.5 meters (10–15 feet).
Japanese knotweed, another member of the knotweed complex, shares similar characteristics and was also introduced from Asia as an ornamental plant, but has since be considered an invasive species.
