Women’s Health – Natural Herbs to Balance and Support

Smooth Transitions – Herbal Support for Every Phase of Women’s Lives

Women’s health is unique – and ever changing! While there is a beauty to the way women’s bodies transition throughout life, these changes aren’t always smooth.

Menstrual cycles can be uncomfortable and unpredictable, changing over time, and, when these cycles cease, the process of menopause often comes with disrupting – and stressful – symptoms.

More and more women are turning to natural solutions to help alleviate discomfort and take control of their hormonal health, and herbs can effectively help treat symptoms that accompany natural cycles – as well as help resolve the underlying hormonal issues that cause them.

Read on to learn more about how plant medicines can be used as effective, safe, and gentle options to restore hormonal balance and help women navigate common health concerns!

Menstrual Health

The monthly menstrual cycle is governed by hormones that naturally bring mild emotional and physical variations with its distinct phases. However, many women regularly experience more extreme, distressing symptoms throughout their cycles – often due to imbalances in the body.

We offer 3 distinct herbal blends that work to gently rebalance and support healthy monthly cycles.

Menstrual Tonic – for irregular, scanty periods

Menstrual Tonic promotes consistent menstruation by effectively balancing and fortifying the body’s natural systems to regulate cycle phases, improve flow, and relieve associated pain.

This tonic tincture is formulated around dong quai, also known as “female ginseng” – a classic herb used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for its regulating effect on menstruation. The formula is rounded out with 6 complementary herbs that support cycles that are long, absent, or light with “scanty flow” and are accompanied by menstrual cramping. These include:

Rehmannia, an adaptogen valued for treating hormonal disorders that specifically supports healthy periods in women with irregular, light, or long cycles.

Blue cohosh, black cohosh, wild yam, and ginger are all antispasmodic, warming herbs that work to soothe painful menstruation and cramping, while lady’s mantle acts as a uterine tonic.*

PMS Support – for pre-menstrual syndrome

PMS is one of the most common menstrual disruptions experienced by women, characterized by a series of symptoms that appear before menstruation begins, including irritability, cramping, depression, bloating, acne, headaches, digestive issues, and sugar cravings.

PMS Support is formulated around chastetree (Vitex agnus-castus) – a useful herb for irregular cycles, as it acts as a great hormone “normalizer”. It works at the level of the brain to tell our ovaries to develop a follicle and to ovulate, both of which are important to help restore normal hormonal fluctuations throughout the cycle for an optimal cycle length.

PMS Support combines chastetree with 6 herbs to boost brain function and memory, balance mood (irritability, depression), and provide anti-fatigue effects (with adaptogenic support coming from rhodiola). The formula also works to:

  • reduce high estrogen levels and clear excess hormones with liver-supporting burdock.
  • regulate cycle length, especially shorter cycles (< 26 days).
  • ease disruptive changes in sleep, bloating, and breast tenderness.

Regular Flow – for painful, heavy  periods

Heavy periods can be an inconvenience for many women and can be related to an existing hormonal imbalance or triggered by a hormonal transition such as after pregnancy or in perimenopause. Our Regular Flow tincture is specifically formulated to helps relieve menorrhagia (i.e., heavy menstruation).

The tincture formula combines hormone-regulating chastetree with 3 uterine tonic and astringent herbs that work to reduce menstrual bleeding and tone and strengthen uterine tissue. Astringent herbs shepherd’s purse, wild geranium, and yarrow all aid in drying and toning the uterus, helping to curb excessive flow.

*While Menstrual Tonic balances irregular periods, it is not recommended for use with painful, HEAVY menstruation, as it can exacerbate symptoms – those with heavy cycles should consider the Regular Flow formula.

Perimenopause & Menopause

Around the age of 45, and as early as the mid-30s, most women begin a period of transition, as the menstrual cycle changes (perimenopause) and eventually ceases (menopause).

Symptoms associated with this change include hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disturbance, mood changes, difficulties losing weight, low libido, and vaginal dryness, to name a few.

Our Menopause Support is a tincture formula that does what its name suggests: helps to relieve common symptoms associated with the specific challenges of transition throughout perimenopause and menopause with 7 targeted plant medicines.

Black cohosh is an herb with phytoestrogenic qualities that works on the endocrine regulatory system, reducing hot flashes and night sweats. Phytoestrogens have been shown to help offset the symptoms of estrogen withdrawal that accompany menopause and preserve tissues that estrogen protects, including the brain, heart, and bones.

Hormonal normalizers, dong quai and chastetree, help to balance hormones, and sage and adaptogenic rhodiola support memory and increase the body’s resiliency to stress and fatigue.

This balancing formula is complemented by burdock, which supports liver function to help clear excess hormones and reduce high estrogen levels.

No matter what phase of life, herbs offer gentle and effective solutions to ease symptoms and guide the body into optimum balance.
