Vaginal dryness and discomfort
Cala-Gel is specifically formulated to relieve vaginal dryness and discomfort, to alleviate the conditions often associated with these symptoms, and to restore and nourish vaginal tissues. The unique, synergistic blend of herbal and non-herbal ingredients in Cala-Gel not only cool and lubricate the vagina, but also heal, restore, nourish and tonify vaginal tissue. Cala-Gel is made from certified organically grown or wildcrafted ingredients, the main one being the flowering tops of calendula infused in extra-virgin olive oil.
Cala-Gel combines ingredients best suited to reinforce the particular healing properties of calendula. The following is a brief explanation of the individual ingredients and the rationale for their use:
Calendula: The leading element in this formula, calendula is valued as a wound healer, anti-infective and anti-inflammatory. Renowned herbalist David Hoffmann explains that, “Calendula may be used safely whenever there is inflammation on the skin, whether due to infection or physical damage. It may be applied for any external bleeding or wound, bruising, or strains. The herb is also of benefit for slow-healing wounds and skin ulcers, and ideal for first-aid treatment of minor burns and scalds. Calendula may be applied locally as a lotion, poultice, or compress, depending on which is most appropriate. Calendula has long been used throughout Europe for wound healing and treatment of both skin and gastric ulcers. Its healing power appears to be based at least in part on its terpene content.”
The American Botanical Council’s Mark Blumenthal and his coauthors explain that calendula ointments have been proven in tests to “activate tissue regeneration and epithelial tissue development”.
Numerous sources corroborate calendula’s external use for the following: inflammatory skin lesions, diaper rash, poorly healing wounds, and chapped dry skin and lips.
Aloe vera: Aloe vera also has well-verified wound healing properties. Moisturizing and emollient, aloe vera contributes immune-enhancing, antibacterial, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory qualities to the gel.
Myrrh: Myrrh has traditionally been employed for wounds and abrasions and has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
Vitamin E (d-alpha tocopherol acetate): The vitamin E that we have added by way of reinforcement to this formula plays a signal role as an antioxidant, helping to stabilize and repair cell membranes and reducing oedema and erythema.
